Using Capital Letters for Nouns

You have to use capital letters for nouns in the following groups:

  • countries: Indonesia, the United States, Germany, Britain, Japan, Australia
  • towns, cities, states and regions: Melbourne, California, Tokyo, Jakarta
  • nationalities, ethnic groups and religion – referring to people, languages or things from a country, region or culture :  Are you Japanese?   a Buddhist temple
  • trade-marks and names of companies and other organizations: Coca Cola, Pepsi, Microsoft Corporation, Green Peace
  • months and days of the week: November, 9th May, Monday, Friday
  • names of vehicles like ships, trains and spacecraft: the Titanic, Flying Scotsman
  • titles of books, poems, songs, plays, films: Harry Potter, Day After Tomorrow, Good Bye

Capital letters are not used for the seasons: spring, summer, autumn, winter
